DGJWC Awards $20,000 in Scholarships to High School Seniors
Downers Grove, IL - April 26, 2023 - The Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club (DGJWC) awarded ten area high school seniors with $20,000 in scholarships. This year the volunteer women’s organization increased its annual scholarship program investment by 33%, allowing the Club to award four additional scholarships versus last year.
Ten scholarship recipients were selected from 70 applications submitted by students living in Downers Grove and/or attending local schools, including Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove North HS, Benet Academy, Timothy Christian Academy, and Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. Each recipient was awarded with $2,000 towards their college education.
The 10 recipients stood out for their academic merits, extracurricular activities, and their commitment to service and volunteering both within and beyond their community.
“These individuals embody what is at the core of the DGJWC's mission: supporting others in need,” said DGJWC president Lindsay Garrity. “Our Club is so honored to award scholarships to these well-deserving students.”
The following seniors were selected for DGJWC scholarships:
Madison Drye, Timothy Christian Academy
Ted Dulles, DGS
Julia Hanson, DGN
Emily Lang, DGS
Peyton Myers, DGN
Brenda Perez, DGS
Hailey Silanskis, DGS
Calista Shuster, DGN
Tyler Werner, DGN
Lauryn Wilson, DGS
The senior scholarships continue DGJWC’s commitment to supporting education in the Downers Grove community.
In January, the Club awarded grants to 25 teachers in Downers Grove District 58, totaling $10,000. The grants fund supplies to benefit students, or to support an educator's enrollment in a course or workshop that benefits their students.
In February, the Club recognized seven District 58 junior high students for excellence in creative arts. The students were recognized at a reception and their artwork was displayed at Community Bank of Downers Grove.
"On behalf of District 58, I want to thank the DGJWC for supporting our staff and students," District 58 Superintendent Dr. Kevin Russell said in January.
Added Garrity, “Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club is honored to be able to support the accomplishments and aspirations of the students and teachers in our community.”
