Downers Grove Junior Woman's Club Awards


Junior High Art Contest 

The Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club is sponsoring a Junior High Art Contest. Any individual artwork such as pencil, ink, painting or sculpture may be submitted and need not be a special piece created for the contest.  All entries should be matted for proper display with the exception of sculptures. This contest is open to 7th and 8th Grade students who attend school in District 58, District 66, and other Downers Grove Junior High schools.  One entry per artist, please.Please print when completing the bottom portion of this entry form, detach it from the top and attach it to your artwork. ALL ARTWORK WILL BE PICKED UP AT THE SCHOOL THE MORNING OF Friday, FEBRUARY 2nd.  A qualified panel will judge the artwork. All winners will be notified by phone or email by February 12th.  Awards will be presented at the Downers Grove Junior Woman's Club meeting on Tuesday, February 27, 2018.  Winning artwork will be displayed in downtown Downers Grove at the Community Bank of Downers Grove. Non-winning artwork will be returned to your school by February 16th.  Winning artwork will be returned to the schools in April.  


Outstanding Teacher of the Year (application) (closed for 2017)

The Downers Grove Junior Woman's Club will honor local educators for the 26th year with the 2017 Annual Outstanding Teacher of the Year Awards. The award recognizes teachers in Downers Grove area schools who are truly special and remarkable in the field of education.  Winners will be recognized at the Downers Grove Junior Woman's Club meeting on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the Downers Grove Public Library.

2018 Scholarship information will be posted in January 2018.

To be eligible, students must, at the time of application:

  1. Be a resident of Downers Grove or live within the boundaries of District 99
  2. Attend any accredited high school
  3. Rank in the top 25% of the senior class academically

Scholarship winners will be selected based on overall academic excellence coupled with their involvement outside of the classroom.  Outside activities may include extra-curricular activities, community service and special projects, recreational activities and hobbies and work experience.  Community and service projects are especially important since the mission of the DGJWC is to positively impact the Downers Grove area and the local residents.


General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs Scholarships are:

Scholarships are mailed directly to the GFWC as indicated on each application. Applications must be postmarked by Feb. 15 of each year.  Scholarship requirements are on the applications. Students submitting applications must be students at a State of Illinois School and are planning on attending a college or university in the State of Illinois.
